In India, lung cancer is the commonest form of cancer, and it constitutes 6.9% of all new cancer cases and 9.3% of all cancer related deaths in both male and female. Keeping in mind the increasing trend of lung cancer cases in the country, the IHW Council hosts Lung Cancer Awareness talk shows by inviting experts to talk about the prevention, risk factors, symptoms, along with the ways to beat the disease in the early stages. The show has been able to take the message to the large community of audience in India and create awareness on the importance of early detection better health outcomes.
The Lung Cancer Awareness talk shows organised by the Rapid Global Cancer Alliance serve as a platform to educate the public about lung cancer, including its prevention, risk factors, symptoms, and early detection strategies. These events aim to raise awareness about the disease and provide valuable information to help individuals better understand and combat lung cancer.
The talk shows also emphasized on the importance of prevention in the form of healthier habits and experts discussed the primary preventive measures like avoiding tobacco smoke in all forms, including smoking cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, as well as exposure to second hand smoke. The experts deliberated on the ill effects of smoking on the body focussing on the preventive aspect of the disease.
The oncologist also shed light on various risk factors associated with lung cancer including smoking, exposure to environmental pollutants such as asbestos, radon gas, and certain workplace chemicals, genetic predisposition and family history in the development of lung cancer.
The aim of the discussions organised by Rapid Global Cancer Alliance is to educate the audience about the common symptoms of lung cancer. These may include persistent coughing, coughing up blood, chest pain, hoarseness, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and recurring respiratory infections. By increasing awareness of these symptoms, the goal is to encourage individuals to seek medical attention promptly if they experience any of these signs.
It is important to note that early detection of any form of cancer can substantially impact the treatment outcome and bring down the mortality rate. The talk shows aspire to motivate people for regular check-ups and screenings, particularly for high-risk individuals, such as current or former smokers and those with a family history of lung cancer.
The talk shows of Rapid Global Cancer Alliance have been playing a significant role in promoting advocacy and awareness on lung cancer and motivate people to take proactive steps to opt for a healthier practise thus reducing the burden of lung cancer. The talk shows also provide solidarity, knowledge sharing platform and counselling to patients and survivors for better health outcomes. The shows and discussions also act as advocates for policy regulations and better cancer care ecosystem for the benefit of all stakeholders while keeping the patients as the fulcrum point for all processes. The Rapid Global Cancer Alliance also advocates for a patient -centric approach in cancer care ecosystem through these talk shows and sessions.
